Adding Biden as "Write-in"

Considering what happened in NH, I think that if Biden isn't on the ballot people will just write him in.

I also disagree with this line in the source code: "Many legal scholars believe that it is unlikely that he will appear on the ballot". Governor DeWine said "I don't want to minimize that this has to happen, but I do want to minimize anybody thinking that there's a snowball's chance in hell that this isn't going to happen. Should Biden and/or Kennedy be included in the infobox

Per the sourcing in the article, the state legislature is not budging on moving their filing deadline, thus *potentially* removing Biden from the ballot. As User:AlfLandonFan notes above, it seems very unlikely based on other comments that Biden will actually not appear on the ballot.

Should Biden appear in the infobox? I would argue its a diservice to our readers to remove Biden so early. He could run as an Independent in Ohio, he could run a write-in campaign, the DNC could do something else.

Additionally, Kennedy has enough signatures to appear on the ballot but has not been certified yet. Should he appear in the infobox, if no, what should be the threshold for inclusion? Esolo5002 (talk) 17:34, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

I definitely oppose removing Biden, simply because I believe it is too early to make a call in that regard. The sources linked in the article seem quite confident that Biden will appear on the ballot, and including him in the infobox reflects this. maybe adding a note with the controversy next to his name would be appropriate—in addition to discussion in the body of the article.

At the same time, I am ambivalent towards including Kennedy. He is undeniably a notable player on the national stage (current polling indicates he has about 9-10% of the vote) but there just isn't much evidence pointing towards this in Ohio specifically. 538's poll aggregator shows a few recent ones with a couple at 5–6% and one at 13%. Moreover, a quick look at other states' 2024 election articles also shows that Kennedy is not on most of them.

I think the situation is interesting and should be reflected in the article, but changing the infobox this early seems irresponsible. Brooklaika (talk) 19:47, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

In 2016 Gary Johnson was included in the infobox for states where he got over 5% of the vote. Perhaps if Kennedy is certified and his polling average is significant he can be included 49.98.231.249 (talk) 20:58, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

The reason Mr. Kennedy does not appear in the majority of state articles is due to not being certified for the November ballot yet. The articles that do have him listed he has been certified to be on the ballot.ThisUserIsTaken (talk) 00:08, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

At the present time I would vote to keep President Biden in the infobox. The Democratic Party can still officially nominate him as their nominee before the August 7th deadline. While having the Convention be his formal nomination. Should August 7th come and go with no solution. That would be the time to remove President Biden from the infobox. As for Mr. Kennedy, once he is certified to be on the ballot he should be included in the infobox. His polling, at least in the three way race, more than satisfies the WP:5% rule. Doing so when he is would also be in line with articles for other states where he has been officially certified to be on the ballot.ThisUserIsTaken (talk) 00:02, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
