The 1875 Rhode Island gubernatorial election was held on 7 April 1875 in order to elect the Governor of Rhode Island. Republican nominee Henry Lippitt defeated National Republican nominee Rowland Hazard II and Democratic nominee Charles R. Cutler. However, as no candidate received a majority of the total votes cast as was required by Rhode Island law, the election was forwarded to the Rhode Island legislature, who chose Lippitt as Governor.[1]
