Brazilian coats of arms

Hey all! I thought I'd let you know that in the context of a GLAMWiki initiative with the Brazilian National Archives we have just uploaded hundreds of coats/grants of arms to Commons (c:Category:Coats of arms at Arquivo Nacional (Brazil)), and we'd really appreciate help and support to curate all this content, if anyone feels like helping out on this! Life peers 1986-2000

Some months ago I combed through a copy of Debrett's Peerage & Baronetage 2000 and noted the blazons for a great many life peers. I had hoped to upload their arms fairly quickly, but it became apparent that the majority of them had gone for complex combinations of obscure charges which put many of their achievements beyond my capabilities. Rather than spend years slowly grinding through them, I have added the blazons for all the listed peers and I invite other members of this project to take a stab at illustrating them.

References required at Flag of Hong Kong

Good day editors of WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology. I was recently looking at Flag of Hong Kong and a lot of the content seems unsourced at this article. I believe sources could be found, but I don't know where to look for it. Perhaps some links to British government archives? Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Types of flags used on country articles

What kind of flags do you guys think should be shown on country articles as the country's flag and if the country has both the state and civil flag which one should be shown? should it have something stating as such Flags200 (talk) 10:35, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

Flags200 has been making some changes in numerous articles recently, and I suggested asking about it here to get some feedback before continuing, so thanks for doing that...
I believe that the flag shown in the "image_flag" parameter of the infobox should be the most commonly-used national flag. Generally this is the civil flag, where the state flag is only flown by the government. For example, this recent edit to the Germany article, changing the civil flag to the government flag, was not correct: [1] and was reverted by another editor. The reason is that the article is about the country, not about the government. It's similar to the reason that we don't put an "official website" such as https://www.bundesregierung.de for a country. It's also consistent with the usage in the German state articles. They used the now-obsolete Template:Infobox German state, which if I recall correctly, specifically said that the civil flag should be used rather than the government flag. Last year, someone went on a mission to change them all to the government flags, which had to be reverted, see Special:Contributions/109.48.240.110.
On the other hand, there may be isolated cases where it's not entirely clear; consensus should be sought on the article's talk page, for example: Talk:Spain/Archive 5#Flag of Spain.
The second question is about the intended use of the "flag_type" parameter, and whether it should be used to specify that it's a civil vs. state flag, for example this recent edit: [2] (also [3], [4], [5], etc.). If so, should this be mass-added to all other country articles that have a civil and state flag? I reverted that edit in part because the documentation for Template:Infobox country doesn't show the parameter being used at all for countries, only for former countries, though I don't know why that is. It also just doesn't seem necessary, as the template automatically creates the "Flag" caption and link to the relevant flag article. That seems to me to be sufficient.
Finally, even if the "flag_type" can be used for former countries, I'm not sure exactly how it's meant to be used. For example, should it contain the dates the flag was in use, as in this recent edit: [6]?

What about in the cases where the state flag is shown instead of the civil flag. Do you think that it should be labeled as such?Or do you think that the flag_type should only be used if both the civil and state flags are commonly seen? Flags200 (talk) 18:55, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
In my opinion I don't think it matters what the description of the field says. All that matters is that it can accomplish a type of edit that I'm making to the article. Flags200 (talk) 19:05, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
As far as its use in former countries I think it is supposed to outline whether it is a banner since some countries from the mid evil ages didn't have flags they had banners. that was probably its intended purpose or at least that's what I'm guessing. Flags200 (talk) 19:07, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Flags200, it doesn't seem necessary to me to distinguish between a civil or state flag displayed in the "country" infobox, just the automatic default "Flag" seems sufficient. But I would be interested to hear what others' opinions are. If there's support for doing a mass-change of articles, we could then look at how best to accommodate that in the template. I would also still like to hear from someone what exactly the purpose of the flag_type field is meant to be.
I do think it matters what the description of the template fields say, and how they are intended to be used. People have put a lot of work into making the template. For example, recently there was a large conflict over the (mis)use of fields in the citation templates in order to control italics. If the template doesn't accomodate what people want, it can be discussed and changed; I think that's a better approach. --IamNotU (talk) 00:44, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
