BlackJack

For info

Please see this. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:01, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I thought exactly the same. Spike 'em (talk) 10:06, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...

Do you think our disruptive friend on CRIN talk could be a long dormant sock of BlackJack? He seems too articulate to be related to Daft. StickyWicket (talk) 15:20, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I did wonder that yesterday when he was at the height of his editing. It certainly matches his MO, but I thought some of good previous editing activity was out of his normal range (edits about modern day Bangladesh cricketers rather than historic British ones) but other stuff I've seen him do in the past have surprised me just as much. Spike 'em (talk) 15:36, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, actually looking back to his oldest edits back in 2014, he does edit pretty much from the get go about Bangladeshi cricketers, so I don't think it's him. Just someone with a bee in their bonnet about the five-for lists. StickyWicket (talk) 18:30, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Daft/BlackJack?

Hi Spike 'em. I wonder if the IP(s) editing here might be either of the above? The IP's look pretty weird though, they seem too long? Maybe a VPN, in which case it might be Daft, as he's used a VPN in the past. However, the personal attack on there could fit both of them. Shall I take to SPI? StickyWicket (talk) 18:34, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if they are either of our favourite bickering couple, though I suspect the two addresses are the same person. They are (newer) IPv6 addresses, rather than the more usual IPv4 ones, which is why they look a bit different. Spike 'em (talk) 09:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

I missed the drama again. Thanks for cleaning up. Bit like buses... Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:51, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I think someone may have had a drink or 2 on Thursday evening, going by the late-night vandalism that this page suffered! Let's see how the next persona behaves, but I've lost a bit of patience. Spike 'em (talk) 17:36, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Quite. I think I'm at the stage where they need to use Talk:BlackJack to start to make moves towards a community-agreed way that they can come back to Wikipedia. I'm not sure that anything else will work - it always ends the same way. It'll take time, I imagine, but it seems like the only way forward right now. Blue Square Thing (talk) 14:04, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vallabharebel

Vallabhasev - banned user?

You cited WP:BANREVERT in a recent revert of edits by Vallabhasev. Who is the related banned (or blocked) user? —C.Fred (talk) 14:19, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vallabharebel Spike 'em (talk) 14:21, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the reported user has been given out!
Good catch! User is blocked. Let me know if they show back up. —C.Fred (talk) 14:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I did log an SPI, but it seems to take a while for those to be looked into. Spike 'em (talk) 14:41, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: I've noticed Vallabhareb appear on my watchlist this morning, making edits similar to the socking editors above (hijacking cricket teams to become the non-existent Vizag Victors). Spike 'em (talk) 10:34, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They've been blocked too. Thank you for letting me know. —C.Fred (talk) 12:49, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Seasons greetings @C.Fred:! I've found another socking editor, this time Vallabharese, and in particular this and this. Spike 'em (talk) 17:12, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: : They are back: Bhavallanha is certain based on editing and Vallabhabha is a possible, but based mainly on the name. Many thanks. Spike 'em (talk) 15:00, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've blocked the first one. The second one, the name is suspect, and they're editing cricket articles, but I don't hear the quacking (yet). I'll keep an eye on them. —C.Fred (talk) 16:19, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; I agree that there is not enough yet on the second Spike 'em (talk) 16:24, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: and another: Vallabhasesss. Is there anything else we can do to stop this person (though it is an annoyance affecting a small number of articles)? Thanks for your help! Spike 'em (talk) 15:02, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There's not a proactive way to prevent creation of socks, but certainly they can be blocked on sight. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vallabharebel is where to report them. —C.Fred (talk) 18:34, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Socks and ANI

Hi Spike. Hope you are well. Thank you for logging the sock report. With the ongoing AfD and the user creating even more articles for U19 cricketers, I've posted this at ANI. Thanks again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:34, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016

Hi, I saw you track down Gjahgb and I really appreciate your work. This is about his imaginary team Vizag Victors, as he tried to vandalize this article. Now editors were quick to revert to the last good revision. Though I recently found out an editor named Tshashankkini, editing the squad section, and upon further inquiry, found the section to be missing. After reverting it to the last probable good revision, I couldn't help but wonder about something missing in the article. I would like you to browse through the article and make necessary changes, since I am ill-informed to do so. Thanks! Interesting Geek (talk) 11:59, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted back further than you did, all the edits by users starting with 2401 are the same person and incorrect. I'll try having a look back through the squad template later to get a proper list from 2016. Spike 'em (talk) 16:27, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sock work

Hi Spike - hope you are well. Thanks for all your work in reporting/reverting the socks of late. I know it takes up a lot of time and effort, and it doesn't go un-noticed. Thanks again! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:47, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I have tried getting a wider block enacted, but apparently the IP range they are coming from is a major telecoms company in India so there would be too much collateral damage :( Spike 'em (talk) 09:57, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, pretty much the same thing that's happened with some LTA I've uncovered. Short of unplugging the subcontinent, it's a game of whack-a-mole. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:05, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bahjkm

Hi,Spike. Thanks for your message to me at User talk:Bahjkm. In view of the history you drew my attention to, it's obvious that the IP editor who posted to that page is the sockpuppeteer you mentioned, so I will block that IP address for a while. Do you have any definite evidence that Bahjkm is also the same person? Even before you drew my attention to the history of the article, repeatedly created by multiple sockpuppets, I wondered if Bahjkm was the same person as the IP editor, but I haven't seen anything definite enough to justify any action against the account. JBW (talk) 20:41, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Make your mind up ;) I'll get some diffs together: I was slightly unsure to start of with myself but much of the editing follows the same pattern as other recent socks. Spike 'em (talk) 21:08, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SheryOfficial

Dilbar Hussain

Hi. The article Dilbar Hussain has been created again despite failing WP:GNG. I noticed you brought the discussion for deletion of this article previously. I also think the creator of this article is a sockpuppet of User:Fayyaz Anwar as there name is similar and both created the article. Human (talk) 19:40, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Good spot. The newer account seems to have started editing whilst the older was blocked and there is a definite crossover I'll have a check on the Dilbar Hussain article and log an SPI later. Spike 'em (talk) 21:02, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@A Simple Human: I've logged an SPI and looks like @Lugnuts: has already CSDed Dilbar Hussain. Spike 'em (talk) 09:37, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem and thanks for logging the SPI. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:43, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think the socking goes back further, have added to the SPI above. Spike 'em (talk) 12:21, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This user named User:ShehzadaShery seems like another one of those sockpuppets and also created an illegitimate article. Can you add his name to the sockpuppet investigation as well? Human (talk) 09:52, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@A Simple Human: I've done so already at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/SheryOfficial, so please feel free to add your comments as no-one seems to be actioning it! Spike 'em (talk) 10:19, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you've got your Christmas socks up...

Ho, ho, ho! Hope you have a great Christmas too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:06, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted, I've been monitoring the wrong articles, as the was no way they were staying quiet! Happy Christmas! Spike 'em (talk) 21:35, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:WALEED3030

Hi Spike. For info, I've just posted this at ANI about this editor. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:27, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ta. I logged them at AIV and SPI earlier. The AIV got removed because of the latter, which is a bit dubious as SPIs can take days to resolve. Spike 'em (talk) 16:42, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Socking

Agree that this set of contributions belongs to a blocked user per where the IP is located? I say yes. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:38, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shooting Spirit 007

Hi Spike. Belated happy New Year - hope you had a good one. Incase you missed it, this user went back to his log in/log out routine to edit war, and I opened a fresh SPI case. He's now blocked with his most recent IP address blocked for 1 month too. I'll keep an eye out for the inevitable 60.254.xxx.xxx IP range returning. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 21:45, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I did see, thanks. Seems to be one of those editors who pretends to listen for a short while and then just does the same thing again. Spike 'em (talk) 16:10, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Soutut / Mirchi

Mohammed Shami's greatest fan, prone to random reports at WP:TH

Mohammed Shami

I have found that you are a regular editor of the article in headline. I think you have noticed that the particular article lacks images of Shami (Only 2 are present). As I am a novice to Wiki, I don't know the procedure of adding images to articles. I'll be glad if you, instead of me, add some images of Shami in the article, especially one in the jersey of his IPL team. Thank you in advance.--Michri michri (talk) 08:32, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know of any copyright-free images to use, as I don't have a supply of pictures of cricketers playing in the IPL to hand? Taking a freeze frame from a video is no better, unless the video itself is free to use. Spike 'em (talk) 09:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there are a number of pictures of Shami in various youtube videos, but I don't know whether they hold copyright claim.--Michri michri (talk) 13:14, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I was about to raise the issue of this article here as it happens - I imagine we're on the same line of thought here. I might just get the chance to rework the entire international cricket section this week - as it appears that I'm not able to leave the house at all. I still have my sense of smell and, yes, well - it does a bit I think? I did make a start somewhere a while back. I'll see what I can get done after I've cleared some work related jobs. Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:13, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that once you used to regularly edit the article we are speaking of. Anyway, just a question, how are pictures supplied to the GA or FA related to cricketers? Michri michri (talk) 13:18, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have no interest in trawling through videos / youtube / google to investigate copyright status of unknown photos. From my experience, photos of other cricketers are either taken by the editor uploading them or sourced from places that release them automatically under the correct Creative Commons licence. Spike 'em (talk) 14:26, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And this talk page should have lots of useful guidance. Spike 'em (talk) 14:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Who this user is? It's showing that the user is currently blocked. Anyway, I did not ask if you have any interest in trawling through videos / youtube / google to investigate copyright status of unknown photos. I conveyed my reply and asked my query to Blue Square Thing and not you.--Michri michri (talk) 17:22, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

you know exactly who that user is, as I assume you've looked in a mirror recently. You replied to my message above, and said there are lots of videos on YouTube. Spike 'em (talk) 17:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article name not revealing

I might have been blocked. But please check the rate of update of the page in discussion after my being blocked. Revert the last edit of a bogus user and add info on the player's performance in IPL 2022. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.142.67.10 (talk) 10:10, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
