User talk:InsuranceGirl

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:General Accident Insurance, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Dawn Bard (talk) 14:19, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "General Accident Insurance", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 14:56, 6 June 2013 (UTC) Hi, Alex - thank you for your message. I am really so sorry that I have got this wrong. I have not contributed to Wikipedia before and am just trying to work out what we are supposed to do! i have found it a bit confusing and I am embarrassed that I have accidentally caused a problem. We thought that we should be as transparent as possible so made the user name obviously a company name, but it seems that we got that wrong. I am very happy to change the user name to my own and will do that today. If you have any other advice, I'd welcome your guidance. Thanks again. This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, General Accident Insurance, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

Your attention needed at WP:CHU

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. (feel free to reply on this page as you will not be able to edit the request page) ·addshore· talk to me! 02:58, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thank you so much for checking in regarding whether I am comfortable or not with using my real name - that's really kind of you. Having considered this again and read the advisory notes, I have decided that I am not comfortable with it. This has all been a really confusing (and rather stressful) experience so I have decided to withdraw as gracefully as I can. It's such a shame - we were only trying to get to a position where we could suggest updates in an open and transparent way which was respectful to the community, but I have found it too difficult to work out how to do this. Perhaps someone else will have more luck than me! Thank you again for trying to help - I appreciate it. Regards - Sue. General Accident Insurance (talk) 08:34, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have closed your previous request as not done, feel free to choose a different username for the rename! Once you get over this hurdle it will all become easier. ·addshore· talk to me! 10:51, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the encouragement! I am going to give it another go - will submit a name change request today. General Accident Insurance (talk) 08:04, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A question: On your user page is says "Our communications team has set-up this account so we can openly suggest changes to our Wikipedia article, using the Discussion page, whilst acknowledging our interest in the subject". Do you understand that the account must only be used by one person, with no sharing of the password? (You were right to post a disclaimer, but I would advise that when unblocked you reword that one...) Peridon (talk) 09:42, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Mdann52 (talk) 11:16, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mdann52 Hi, thank you for your questions. Yes I understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia - I respect the community's wish to make sure that the information within Wikipedia is accurate and would therefore like to have an opportunity to highlight where there have been developments which you may like to include. I understand that the subject must be notable and I appreciate that it's up to the community to decide what's "notable". Kind regards - Sue General Accident Insurance (talk) 11:27, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What are you planning to edit when unblocked; are you willing to take advice on suggested edits before adding anything. If so, I see no problems with an unblock. Mdann52 (talk) 11:30, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mdann52 Hello - thank you for your response. I’m looking to propose suggested edits to the community for consideration and I will not edit the existing page itself. I’m more than happy to receive any guidance that you can share and I’ll make sure I provide links to sources for the proposed edits. Thanks for all your help.
