Online Krause and Pick catalogues

Bobby, sometimes things need to be changed, especially as far as numismatic articles goes. Wikipedia is an evolving project. I see nothing wrong with advocating an online version of the Standard Catalog of World Coins and the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. Here's an example of an article that uses this style; Banknotes of the African Banking Corporation Limited (Rhodesia). Here's an article that still uses information from the Pick Specialised catalogue, but arranged in the order that the signatories served; Banknotes of Hyderabad. An online version of Krause & Pick will prove to be a very useful resource, considering that it will be updateable as soon as new banknotes, coins, medal-coins, and postal orders are issued, and new varieties in these, plus the traders' currency tokens that have been discovered. - (Numismaticman 21:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC))

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Indian Head nickel: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. Link removed from coins

On the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin#External_links You have removed the link to * Colnect - Listing ~12,000 coins by years.

What did you mean by affiliate riddled? Colnect offers a free to all (no registration required) catalog. Collectors who register (also free) can also manage their personal coin collection there. It's not irrelevant, it's commercial spam and becoming more so every day. Every page is already plastered with AdSense, now eBay affiliate links are being systematically added to all the pages. It has also been blocked for spam before. Bobby I'm Here, Are You There? 13:29, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

It's not spam since it provides original content. Since the site offers all its services for FREE, the ads help in supporting it. If this violates any of Wikipedia's rules, please specify exactly which. If it doesn't, undo your changes. Nice deflection, shifting the discussion to me. ;-) My situation has been discussed and put to bed long ago. In fact, I have gone out of my way to try and make sure links to my site go to pages with no ads, even to the point of dynamically coding some pages to detect the referrer and delete ads if it comes from Wikipedia. It seems you even tried to make me look bad here before posting this. But enough about me. In my opinion and at least one admin here, the link does not provide much value over and above the articles themselves especially for the amount of advertising, see here. There was no intent for deflection as the response to the subject at hand was the first and important part of the response. Having ads on a site linked to in Wikipedia is not a violation of any of Wikipedia's rules as you're quite aware (and I am completely aware of the rules you've linked to). If this is the biggest problem, perhaps contacting the site operators would be willing to do that. Let me know and I'll contact them. Mind there was no intent to make you look bad by removing an invalid link and fixing another one. Your site's link has not been touched there. The opinion of the admin you mention is from May 2008 and AFAIK, Colnect has its coins section (http://coins.colnect.com) only from October thus it's irrelevant (the link there is http://colnect.com and not http://coins.colnect.com). To repeat my case here: Colnect provides a FREE catalog that can be browsed by anyone without registration. It's a valuable resource to collectors and thus is very relevant in the context it was added. This is even without the registration which allows me to match my collection with other collectors (also for FREE). This user is the same user as above and is affiliated with colnect.com. This user's contribs are here, here and here and is on a mission to slip his site into external links. How do you make up your wrong assumptions??? After reading your discussion page, it seems to me you are promoting agendas for your own, rather than Wikipedia users, benefit. When confronted with a direct question, you commence an attack to divert the discussion of its original topic. You have not responded to the original question of this discussion (appearing on the top here) and continue to avoid it. An on-topic reply would be more welcomed than untruthful statements. Removal of Philatelic Investor from External Links to Philatelic Investment article

Hi

Am new to Wikipdia so hope I am using the right protocol!

I added the link to www.philatelicinvestor.com as I believed it would add value to the Philatelic Investment pages.

I am the author of this site but it is not commercial - it is purely to act as a signpost and offer advice (if you view the site you will see that it is heavily text based, no adverts etc)- I thought Wikipedia would be a good place to share this information with the wider community.

If you still believe that it is inappropriate then so be it, I won't push against a closed door! But I do believe that it adds significant value to the article above.

Removal Of link from Gold Coins Article

Can you explain to me which of Wikipedias guidelines this link violates? It is not spam, the linked page contains no adverts, only original content that we as the site authors feel is relevant & useful.

First of all it's a conflict of interest, adding links to your own site. Second, have a look at External Links guidelines, several apply here. The site in question is a commercial site quite obviously designed specifically to make money using affiliate programs. The opening paragraph on the home page makes that crystal clear.
