Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. I've been blocked but haven't done anything wrong (or haven't done anything wrong on my end at least; My ISP is likely using the same IP for multiple users) Update: Seems the IP I'm using, 41.164.163.114, is blocked - not my username itself. Accept reason:

I can find no evidence that the IP address is still hosting an open proxy. See below for more detailed comments. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 21:11, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks to me as though the IP address was once hosting an open proxy, but is not currently doing so. However, there has to be some doubt, as proxies can be offline and then come back. I have posted a request for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies/Requests. If anyone there can come up with a more definite answer, your unblock request may be dealt with soon, if not, and if no more evidence of an open proxy comes up within a day or two, I shall unblock. I know it must be frustrating to have to wait, but please be patient. If nothing has changed and I have not come back to you 48 hours from now, please ping me, and I'll then come back and deal with it as soon as I can. Pinging @JamesBWatson: It's now been 12 days since your comment above - did you get a response to this? Optimist on the run (talk) 20:54, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Optimist on the run: Thanks for pinging me. My request to be pinged if I did not return within 48 hours or so was not just an empty formality: I find it impossible to make sure I keep track of everything I intend to do, and asking to be reminded is a vital part of my dealing with that problem. Nobody responded to my request for help at the WikiProject on open proxies, so I have repeated the same tests for an open proxy that I made before, and there is still no evidence that I can find that the IP address is currently hosting an open proxy, so I shall assume that it is no longer doing so, and unblock it. @JamesBWatson: Thanks James, much appreciated! Forgot to let you know after the 48 hours, apologies.
No need to apologise, as it didn't hurt me. The only effect was that you had to wait longer to be unblocked, so I apologise to you for that delay. However, it was done in the end, which is the main thing. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 08:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
