Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would ask that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You state "I AM THINKING THAT YOU ALL ARE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THIS MAN AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS WHICH ARE PARALLEL TO CLIVE DAVIS." This is inappropriate behaviour. Wikipedia does not accept behaviour like this without censuring it. Please calm down, stop yelling and learn how to work well here. WP:CO-OP has mentors who will help you if you ask nicely. No-one will help you if you continue this aggressive stance and behaviour Fiddle Faddle 21:26, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you the gentleman of whom you write?

If so then you are welcome to continue to use this user name. If you are not the gentleman then you need to consider changing your user name. Your name should reflect you, or something about you, or be a simple made up name. It should not be the name of someone you wish to write about.

If you are Johnston then you need to be aware that the writing of an autobiography here will almost always lead to problems. Your view of yourself is entirely influenced by your own knowledge of yourself. It is a bad idea and is deprecated.

If you insist on ploughing this furrow then understand that you need references. For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, and is in WP:RS, and is significant coverage Fiddle Faddle 21:41, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will help you

However it is past midnight where I live. So be a little patient and I will help, just not today. I can guide you towards what you need to do. Before we start, read WP:YFA Fiddle Faddle 23:24, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am out for much of the day. I suspect you would like to get going, though. So please let me give you some pointers.
The most important things is to write only what can be found in references. This means you need to find them.
Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

These three are your friends. It is likely that these three searches will pull up material on the gentleman. Edits the search criteria to see what you can find. Before you start to write, pare down your sources to a list that meet our very stern requirements. For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is:
  • about them, and
  • is independent of them, and '
  • 'is in WP:RS, and
  • is significant coverage
That is a pretty tough call, but you need to make it on each reference.
Once you have assembled your references you need to write the article. Now, here is the challenge. It may only be written around what the references say. It does;t matter that you know huge sets of facts about the gentleman. All we can enter into Wikipedia is material that the references verify. That's a pretty difficult challenge, especially if he has not been reported on. We may use a very few primary sources. See WP:PRIMARY, but they must be few.
Do not force what you know to fit the references.
The objective here is not quite what I think you think it is. What we need to achieve is getting any article about him to stick as a main namespace article on Wikipedia. If it starts out only two lines long with two excellent references to show he passes our notability policies, that is a win. Other material can be added at leisure, and not just by you. If he is known in the world he will be found on Wikipedia, too, and others will add to the article.
I think you have been trying for as full a biography as possible. That's fine, but really hard to do if you do not have the references. Start small and referenced and work up to more referenced facts as you find references.
So, I'm out for the day. It does't matter to me if you have made no progress when I get back and if you have loads of questions. It ought not to matter you you to do this fast. There is no rush here. Doing it once, and right is better than doing it 20 times and being rebuffed each time.. Do not get impatient. If he is notable in Wikipedia's terms then there will be references. Some may not be online. That's fine, too.
I have some background reading for you. WP:CITE and WP:REFB are excellent. People have also found User:Timtrent/A good article to be helpful. Spend time in preparation before writing another word on the gentleman.
You might also enjoy the idea of working with a formal mentor. WP:CO-OP has folk who are great at it. You see, I hope you don;t only want to write this one article. I hope you'll catch the bug and enjoy this as a bewilderingly fun hobby. Fiddle Faddle 07:24, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
