I am committed to correcting the terrible bias and extremely primitive quality of articles regarding Poland on English wikipedia.
My current projects are:
- Reworking Polish presidential election articles - out of 12 elections that were held, I have so far completely reworked:
- Helping add content to all the different parliamentary elections that took place historically. Perhaps even the more modern ones.
- Creating articles for historical Polish political parties (BOLD ones I deem my best):
- Recreating old party logos
- Fixing and adding to Polish interwar history articles:
- Endecja was civic nationalist. Note: whatever the article for civic nationalism says is just.. wrong? Civic nationalism is not liberal nationalism.
- National Party was a (mostly) pro-democratic party... in opposition to... an authoritarian Piłsudski.
Articles like 2020 Polish presidential election are the bane of my existence. For example: "According to the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the public broadcaster TVP "failed in its legal duty to provide balanced and impartial coverage" and "acted as a campaign vehicle for the incumbent".[4]"
a) Yes, TVP did not provide impartial coverage. It never did. Every single presidential campaign, save for 1990 - sorry, Mazowiecki's campaign team was just incompetent - had TVP be abused as a campaign tool. Look at TVP now, after PO's takeover. It is completely biased against PiS. I suppose that's not relevant to the article, but it is to the 2023 parliamentary election - where it is STILL not brought up.
b) TVP did not provide impartial coverage. Neither did TVN, which constantly attacked Duda and praised Trzaskowski. You can think whatever you want about "balancing the bias", or whatever, but omitting that both TVP and TVN were completely biased?
Likewise, why are there so many articles about random pride marches (really, is this all more noteworthy?) or random phrases used against PiS (come on), while the attempted assassination of Jarosław Kaczyński - which according to Antoni Dudek was the most extreme act of political terrorism since 1991 - is somehow not mentioned? The 2023 Polish protests get an article, but PiS post-election demonstration does not? And the 2024 Polish farmers' protests - SIGNIFICANTLY bigger in magnitude - are barely half the size?
I'm not opposed to those notes or articles existing. In fact, I do really appreciate that they do. They should be there (maybe besides this). But the lack of information available about anything conservative in Poland is tragic. And I'm not even some "conservative".
I'm not an Endek, but Rota was always the more beautiful song to me.
