This template was created to easily update any relevant article with the 1973-74 NHL West Division standings, rather than creating a separate wikitable for each article.
To use the template on any article, insert:
{{1973–74 NHL West Division standings}}
The template also has the capability to highlight a particular row of team's statistics in green, simply by appending a three-letter code to the template name. For example, if you want to highlight the St. Louis Blues' statistics, insert:

The codes for all teams in the West Division are as follows:
- Atlanta Flames = ATL
- California Golden Seals = CAL
- Chicago Black Hawks = CHI
- Los Angeles Kings = LAK
- Minnesota North Stars = MIN
- Philadelphia Flyers = PHI
- Pittsburgh Penguins = PIT
- St. Louis Blues = STL
