Question about swing %

Is is conventional to record the swing from the previous general election for ridings in which there has been an intervening by-election, or should it be recorded with reference to that by-election's results. I've seen it done both ways, but IMHO I'm inclined to record the swing from the previous general election. Thoughts? Absintheparadox (talk) 01:14, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
