Portrayal in Molokai: The Story of Father Damien
It seems like the real Gibson was sympathetic to the Hawaiian people and advised Kalakaua to favored Hawaiians first before foreigners. But why did the movie Molokai: The Story of Father Damien made him out to a person that hate the monarchy of Hawaii and didn't care for the welfare of the Hawaiian lepers of Molokai?--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:25, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- “If a noble Christian priest, preacher or sister should be inspired to go and sacrifice a life to console these poor wretches, that would be a royal soul to shine forever on the throne reared by human love.”
Family
@Maile66: Do you know anything about his family? I didn't want to dig too much into this. But strangely enough his daughter Talula's gravesite says she was born in 1849 but Gibson's wife Rachel died in 1844. KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:52, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
