In the United Kingdom, there is vast diversity between its settlements; the meaning of "settlement" itself can be ambiguous. There are several types of official administrative area that could be described as settlements, but they do not always correspond to what the local residents would think of as their own town or city. I know the area, people in Tyburn do not think of themselves as living in Tyburn, further people in Chester Rd and to the south of that road feel a closer connection with Grange Rd, Holly Lane, Orphanage Rd, Erdington Village etc than with Castle Vale.
