ballot access maps- "on ballot" and "write in"

in the Candidates who received more than 2,000 votes section, there are a few images. in those images, when a state is colored a lighter color, indicating that that party had "write in ballot access", what does that mean? In Pennsylvania for example, no write in votes are published. So, saying that any party had "access" apart from being listed (Libertarian was the only non-major in Pennsylvania), what kind of "access" is meant? skakEL 15:59, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

@Skakkle: It means that the candidate registered to be a write-in candidate there, or that the state didn't require registration of write-in candidates so anyone was automatically a write-in candidate there. In the states that require registration, the state only counts write-in votes for candidates who registered; in states that don't require registration, like Pennsylvania, the state is supposed to count write-in votes for anyone. The counties of Pennsylvania did count and publish their write-in votes. Pennsylvania didn't officially publish the statewide write-in totals in 2020, but by law it was supposed to do it, like it did in 2016. Heitordp (talk) 20:54, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
