The result of the debate was move. -- tariqabjotu 22:37, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

SteelersSteelers (disambiguation) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are by far the most common disambiguation. I propose that Steelers then redirects to Pittsburgh Steelers after move. Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 04:07, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Looking at the disambiguation page, it does look like Pittsburgh Steelers is by far the most common one. While I don't generally support page moves when it's more of a localized fame in English speaking areas (American football team, in this case), this one does seem like the right choice. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 05:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, although I wouldn't if Illawarra weren't defunct. FiggyBee 23:42, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. By far the most common usage. Geoffrey Spear 18:16, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as per nomination. Olessi 06:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge with Steeler (disambiguation) instead. Having a separate dab page for just the sports teams is unnecessary and confusing.  Anþony  talk  07:06, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Incredibly US-centric proposal. Support merge as per User:Anþony above, and we should also de-US-centrify the intro. Andrewa 23:09, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Incredibly US-centric? I made the proposal because, of all the clubs listed, only one has any sort of notability outside the Pittsburgh Steelers, and actually it's a now defunct rugby team. "Illawarra Steelers" gets 9,000 ghits, while "Pittsburgh Steelers" gets 2,000,000. I was doing this for notability, not nationalist purposes. Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 23:53, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Searching for "steelers -pittsburgh" brings up 1,580,000 ghits[1]. Undoubtably some of those still do refer to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the top three links are other sports teams named Steelers. We should err on the side of internationalism. Someone from the UK who types "Steelers" probably wants to see the Sheffield Steelers and doesn't care about the ones from Pittsburgh.
Comment: Agree we should err on the side of internationalism. The google test has limitations even on deciding whether something is notable; In deciding which of two or more things is more notable, it's extremely biased towards the USA, for the simple reason that a disproportionate number of Internet users are from the USA. No change of vote. Andrewa 07:16, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Further, why do we need Steeler (disambiguation) and Steelers (disambiguation)? It just leads to confusion. Note that the Pittsburgh Steelers are listed in both pages, but the other Steelers aren't.  Anþony  talk  00:31, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Agree that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the most common usage of the terms, but I think it's easy enough to add "Pittsburgh" into any link that is using just Steelers. Let's just hope the team never changes cities! --Groggy Dice T|C 06:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
