Thermodynamics and Novelty of Research

The article seems to focus on the researcher's contributions to nutrition science based on the finding of inefficiency of the uptake of certain macronutrients by the body. However this has been well understood for many decades. The respiratory quotient is used to measure exactly this inefficiency. For instance here is a paper from 1932 that discusses it.
