terminology and facts

"rhenish palatinate" was never an official name to which wikipedia should stick only. in this case it was either "rheinkreis" or "pfalz".

there was no renaming of "rhine circle" to "rhenish palatinate" in 1835. the change was from "rheinkreis" to "pfalz".

"pfalz" was not a province but a "district" of rhineland-palatinate. prussia used to have provinces.

"symbol of the region" makes more sense than "regional symbol", especially since the lion is also used in other former palatine areas.Sundar1 (talk) 09:59, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1. Rhenish Palatinate is the English form of Rheinpfalz

2. This is simply using the English naming. This was discussed in your move request at Circle of the Rhine the result of which was no change.

3. You misunderstand the English. A district is a small area; this was a detached province.

4. No difference.

1. yes, "rhenish palatinate" is the english form of "rheinpfalz". nobody disputed that. yet, as i said, rheinpfalz has never been an official name of anything.

2. the english naming of "pfalz" is not "rhenish palatinate" but "palatinate". this has not been discussed before.

3. in this case it's about rheinland-palatinate and not bavaria.

as to bavaria, the rheinkreis/pfalz was one of 8 districts. location or size do not determine whether a territory is a province or a district and the rheinkreis/pfalz happened to be the smallest anyway. bavaria was not made up of 7 districts and one province and, for that matter, not of 7 districts and one circle either. and you have to make up your mind and not use different terms for the same thing.

4. if it's no difference to you, why bother?

1. Whether Rheinpfalz was official or unofficial (not inofficial), is a matter of historical record which I am happy to include. But I take my lead from German Wikipedia which does not always distinguish that

2. Agree the translation, but Circle of the Rhine is not the same as Palatinate

3. If we're talking about the coat of arms image, the German article calls it Rheinkreis which was the Circle of the Rhine

4. There were about 15 territories initially, but I agree it reduced to 8 and I've changed that

5. I'm happy with "regional symbol" or "symbol of the region"; there's a slight difference in meaning, but it's not material

6. Disruptive editing is changing or reverting stuff repeatedly that you know is contentious without discussion. It wastes time and doesn't take things forward.
