Highways that enter New Orleans

(just for the hell of it)

Trying to figure out numbering

(from bridge dates)

History

1933: [1] [2] - doesn't look like any of the numbers match the present ones. Same in 1938, 1946, 1954. Apparently the renumbering was in 1955. 1961 has the current system. The highest number I see (on the small portion shown) is 177; there's definitely some clustering. --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 23:32, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They seem to just be assigned in order of needing a number.

Grid and clustering

[3] - "all routes lower than 1241, except 191, date to the 1955 renumbering" and some more history

There's definitely a grid going on with the low numbers:

  • 1 (diagonal) 3-5-7-9-13-15-17-19-21-23 (25 is off) - higher numbers from 27 to 35 go roughly across again but not as well
  • 2-4-6-8-10-12-14
    • 16-18-20
      • 22-24 - no clear pattern after this, but 26 to 34 fill in other main east-west routes - THERE IS NO LA 32!

Most stuff from 36 to 185 follows the clustering. The following routes don't:

176, then 178 and on seem to jump around a lot. 177-180-181-184 roughly stay in the clustering, though all but 177 are in already-covered areas, and 176-178-182-183-185 are all over the place. Thus the original clustering may have ended at 177, with 176 skipped (or later reassigned?). --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 13:14, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This state's highway naming convention is up for debate above. Feel free to participate. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 05:46, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Louisiana svg shields

I have created a few shields, any feedback is appreciated. --Holderca1 02:20, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Louisiana Highway Shields

As mentioned at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_U.S._Roads/Shields, Louisiana's highway shields are changing as of this year - they are now being replaced (as needed) with black and white shields with a very similar design (no "outer ring"... see [4]) rather than green and white shields, due to the high costs of using green ink. As suggested on the WikiProject page, we should begin the slow and tedious process of converting the current shield images to the new color scheme. --Mr. Brown (talk) 19:04, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When I used to drive east from Texas, much of which lacks vegetation, I was inexorably so favorably impressed by the greenery of Louisiana, so incredibly well represented in those beautiful green highway shields. Texas was all black and white, like an old television, even down to the creativity-challenged box shape of the shield for Texas state highways.

Now, alas, it seems that LA DOTD is trying to pull the wool over our eyes slowly and stealthily, as if knowing that people will not regard these new black-and-white signs as an improvement, replacing as they do the luscious and established iconic green ones. I don't buy the argument that green paint costs more. Many things this state does cost more and have no benefit. It's more likely that the LSU engineers who thought this up were out to get Tulane green off the signs. But these new signs are just ugly and—for folks like me who enjoy seeing something green after being in the arid West—disappointing.

Lush, green Louisiana is now becoming black and white. This new sign is ugly. May it go the way of New Coke. It ain't over till it's over. Think about it. Rammer (talk) 04:01, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-1955 Route Numbers

As we all probably know, before 1955, Louisiana's highways looked very, very different. If anyone wants to add to the list, just slap on a number, where you found the route number, and date of bridge, if possible. Mcdonaat (talk) 19:22, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

State Route 91 (LA 19 between Mississippi Line and Norwood, only bridge available) - 1952 State Route 200 (LA 34 in West Monroe, between US 80 and Thomas Rd.) - 1942

1991, 2008 shields

What's the difference between the 1991 and 2008 shields. I see no significant difference, if not, difference at all. Kevon kevono (talk) 20:00, 8 May 2016 (UTC) (What the hell is UTC?) 13:00 (PT)[reply]

What are you talking about? Please give examples. –Fredddie 20:48, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I figured it out, but in the future, please give some more context in your questions. –Fredddie 20:50, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Now I'm asking, what's the difference between the 1955 and 1991 shields on the inbox? Kevon kevono (talk) 23:11, 10 May 2016 (UTC) (What the hell is UTC?) 16:11 (PDT)[reply]
The newer version shows more detail and accuracy in the state outline.Britinvasion64 (talk) 23:44, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see it, thx. Kevon kevono (talk) 02:02, 11 May 2016 (UTC) (What the hell is UTC?) 19:02 (PT)[reply]

Should this be split?

This list appears to be a little too large and I think it's better to split it into multiple subpages. Dylpickle2k (talk) 23:54, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
