Pronunciation

With the Cumbria shootings in the news, I've heard the name of this place pronounced /'læmplə/ on the television. Is this indeed the local pronunciation? The input of anyone with local knowledge would be appreciated, and better still would be a reference to a published source such as the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary so that we could put an IPA transcription in the article. I ask because the name of Suzy Lamplugh, which most reporters and journalists will probably be more familiar with because of her case, is pronounced differently, as /ˈlæmpluː/, so I wonder if they've been talking to the locals to get the correct pronunciation (not always a given). Thanks. Old Man of Storr (talk) 13:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The locals pronounce it Lamp-le not lamp-loo like on the news. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.224.143 (talk) 20:38, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is Lamp-la. See The Parish of Lamplugh ISBN 0-9522511-0-8 Edited by Betty Marshal and Ann Lister with Foreword by Melvyn Bragg (who spent much time in the parish in his youth). Chris.goodyhills (talk) 12:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC) --Chris.goodyhills (talk) 12:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
