WWII
I've added some detail about GC's sinking in WWII.
Also, I've deleted this:
"The Michel's commander, Von Ruckteschell, was jailed for war crimes in 1946 and was imprisoned for a time in Spandau Prison."
It's true, but he wasn't charged with the attack on GC, so mentioning it here is misleading. I've put a link to the man's page, where the details are.
There's also an external link that mentions the incident, but it's a bit of a whitewash; I'm in two minds about it. Xyl 54 (talk) 03:44, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Biggest loss on a ship ship sunk by a raider??
It is stated, that “the Gloucester Castle had the largest loss of life of any ship sunk by German surface raiders during the war.”
What about the Anchor Line passenger steamer SS Britannia (built 1926 by Alexander Stephens and sons), which was sunk by German raider Thor west of Dakar on March 25, 1941? 127 passengers and 122 crew were killed in this incident. I just wanted to bring this to your attention.
Best regards and greetings from Germany, OfficeBoy (talk) 18:58, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
