When did the Spanish "dukedom" of the 7th Duke of Wellington end? And when did that of the 8th Duke of Wellington start? Either the ceding was in 1968 or in 1972 (when the 7th Duke died).

If this is the case then shouldn't Marquess of Douro be listed as the proper Duque now? The link cited on the page says that he and his father agreed that the title would be ceded to Lord Douro on a date that has passed, but this page and theirs all say that he is still heir to it. Can the title be fully passed during the Duke of Wellington's lifetime? And if not, what is the purpose and intent of the declaration described in that document? Interesting! So how does this work now? Did Lord Douro become Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo or did he just claim it? If he has just claimed it, the title of Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo is currently vacant, right? Surtsicna (talk) 22:35, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Succession

It is no longer true that the dukedom passes to the heirs-general: pursuant to Act 33/2006, males and females are equally treated regarding succession to titles of nobility. So, from now onwards, the first-born child of each duke will succeed (unless they agree to the contrary, as they did in the past).
