what is Danielson

the article currently claims it is a borough

the Broad Street-Davis Park HD NRHP document states that it is a section

i think the other NRHP doc says that it is a former borough.

Someone should find out what this is and write about it. Arguments about forcing mergers of decently sourced NRHP articles, to prevent others from developing them, into this crummy article are ridiculous. doncram (talk) 22:39, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A "section" is a generic term that is used to mean any named portion of a town that is different in name from the town. It is a term interchangeable with village or neighborhood or borough. I don't know why one NRHP doc says it is a former borough. The latest State Register and Manual lists it as a borough. The Town of Killingly website lists it as a borough. Clearly the reference to "former borough" is incorrect. --Polaron | Talk 01:10, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As Polaron says (and has been explained several times previously), "section" is a generic term in in Connecticut.
I also don't why the nom forms don't clearly name it as a borough, but I can speculate. (But only on talk pages, not in articles -- wink.) Although the first page of the Broad Street-Davis Park nom form says "Danielson section of Killingly", later on the nom form tells about the history of the borough. Apparently, the borough formerly included part of the town of Brooklyn, and later was trimmed back to just include part of Killingly. That might lead some people to refer to the "Danielson section of Killingly" in order to distinguish it from the "Danielson section of Brooklyn". As for the Main Street HD nom form that does say it was formerly a borough, it also has a lot of info on the borough history. My hunch is that the Hartford-based consultants who filled in the form made a mistake. According to Borough (Connecticut), there are only 8 functioning boroughs in Connecticut that are not coextensive with the town, and most of them are very small, so it is likely that city kids working for a consulting firm thought that this governmental structure was just an extinct historical oddity. --Orlady (talk) 03:13, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
