First or third African American to get a PhD from UChicago?

As of now [1], the article has both:

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Turner was the first African American to receive a graduate degree at the University of Cincinnati and most likely the first African American to earn a PhD from the University of Chicago.[1]

The 2009 Annual Review of Entomology paper reads: At the time, the University of Chicago, founded in 1890, did not keep records on the ethnicity of their students; however, Turner is probably the first African American to earn his PhD at that institution. The 2017 Nature paper reads: In 1907, Turner became the third African American at the University of Chicago, Illinois, to be awarded a PhD (in zoology).

One might think that the later of these two papers written by Abramson would be more accurate, there is no "probably" and in the time between the two papers he might have learned of two earlier black PhDs. However I think "first" is actually correct.

I have found a page from the University of Chicago [2] which reads: The first seven African American graduate alumni were [Monroe Nathan] Work (1903), [Robert Richard] Wright[, Jr.] (1904), Charles H. Turner (1907), Woodard (1907), Carter G. Woodson (1908), Julian H. Lewis (1915) and Ernest Everett Just (1916). Note that this is not specifically PhDs but graduate degrees in general, and I believe this or a similar list might have caused confusion. As far as I can tell, both Work and Wright received MAs and not PhDs from the University of Chicago (doi:10.2307/2715609; doi:10.2307/2649003), which would make Turner the first to get a PhD, but this is obviously WP:SYNTHESIS on my part. It would be ideal if we could find a source that explicitly said this without the "probably" of the 2009 paper; I know Wikipedia has a policy of Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth but it would be nice if we could find a way to verify the actual truth in this case.
