first contested

@Sionk: I am aware the campaigns are underway, but the election itself has not happened yet, and campaigns before the election aren’t the actual election. Is there an MP already for Ceredigion Preseli? No. So the contest is yet to take place, merely campaigning now. “First contested” alone gives the impression that is has already been contested in for the first time. It has not.

Compare that to “to be (first) contested” indicates it is to hold its inaugural contest/election on 4th July. Dank Jae 15:35, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The election has not happened, but the contest is already underway. The opening sentence talks about the first contest. Candidates are pounding the streets across the UK at the moment drumming up support on doorsteps. Sionk (talk) 18:16, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sionk, still I’d argue the contest is still actually on 4 July. Campaigns to persuade those to change their vote on 4 July is not part of the actual election. Otherwise should 2024 United Kingdom general election have 30 May 2024–4 July 2024?

I really can't believe we're arguing about minor semantics when there are far better things to be doing. A contest is different from an election date. Maybe "to be first contested" (like Brecon,_Radnor_and_Cwm_Tawe_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) would cover both of our concerns - it has an element of future tense, while at the same time describing an ongoing general intention (so doesn't require someone to go through re-editing the article in 2 weeks time). So the original wording?

Nothing wrong with re-editing the article in less than 2 weeks. It’ll likely happen as people add results. We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves though by doing edits prematurely.
