i was in a cadet version of "Pioneer training" run by members of the PPCLI, we wore the Traditional uniforms, learned alot, and had a real feel for the tradition.
Pioneers are not Engineers
An Assault Pioneer is a fully trained Infantryman who has been trained in Combat Engineering skills. Engineers are not the equivalents of Assault Pioneers. If that was the case, then why do the British and Canadians have Engineers as well? To my knowledge, there is no equivalent in the U.S Military. The Assault Pioneer is an Infantry/Engineer hybrid and is unique. I will be editing the article to reflect this.--Jesse 11:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Some nations have historically had assault pioneer units that were part of their corps of engineers rather than infantry - IIRC the Germans are a good example, doing this in both World Wars. 82.1.7.156 (talk) 16:13, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
correction
as a soldier in the canadian forces i can verify the accuracy of this article, with the addition that the assualt pioneer designation was retired, succeeded by the pathfinders which were also retired, operational duties were then shouldered on the backs of the engineer corps —Preceding unsigned comment added by Radtech875 (talk • contribs) 16:43, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
