"Dramaturg [sic]"?

Why the (single) quotation marks in this sentence?: "He has contributed to the development as both 'dramaturg' [sic] and director of workshops ... [etc.]"

Confusing wording

they opened the Manhattan Theatre Club, almost costing the founder Lynn Meadow her new board.
