Should parish names with St. be fully spelled out as “Saint” for precise sorting?

In Louisiana parish tables, I have always spelled out “St.” as “Saint” – although when the full spelling is used it redirects — so that they will sort precisely.

If “Saint” is not fully spelled out, I feel it becomes necessary to add class="unsortable" to the parish column in the table because it will not sort precisely.

It is true that in the case of Louisiana parishes the abbreviation of “Saint” does not affect the sort order of parishes, but there are other cases, like Missouri county tables, where abbreviating “Saint” will alter the sort order.

Is it best to restore the full spelling with {{nowrap|}} — which gives the most nearly identical look in both desktop and mobile, a feature I value strongly — or to add class="unsortable" to the parish column? I would like some feedback but see potential problems with general applicability (as I noted re Missouri above) to all states Luokehao (talk) 10:24, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
