Ned Long is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League. He has previously played for Hawthorn.
Early life
Long represented Victoria in the Under 15 School Sport competition alongside future Hawthorn teammate Josh Ward. Long had impressive early in 2021 until injury saw him drop down the ratings in the eyes of recruiters. Overlooked in the main draft Hawthorn selected him with their first pick of the rookie draft. He was educated at Northcote High School and Melbourne Grammar.
AFL career
Long was selected by Hawthorn with their 5th pick of the 2022 rookie draft.[1] He made his debut in round 23 of the 2022 AFL season, in which Hawthorn played the Western Bulldogs at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.[2] In October 2023, Long was delisted by the club after playing five senior games.[3]
Two months after being delisted by Hawthorn, Long joined Collingwood's VFL side.[4] Five months later, he was promoted to the club's senior side through the 2024 mid-season rookie draft using their 19th pick.[5]
