Plot

Lola James is an exotic dancer with a coke addiction by night and a grocer in the morning. Working two jobs constantly in hopes of moving herself and her younger brother, Arlo out of their toxic home. Their mother Mona, who is an overly religious narcissist is homophobic and abuses Arlo as he shows interest in makeup and fluidity alike to his sister, Lola. Lola has a boyfriend named Malachi who is also her drug dealer and their relationship is tumultuous. After a night of seeing her mother get physical with Arlo, Lola packs their bags and stays with her coworker and best friend, Babina. Just as Lola is about to save up the money to move with her brother, she is unfortunately fired from her job after her coworker reports her shoplifting. Mona then figures out where Arlo is being kept and comes back for him against Lola’s wishes. That night, Mona evilly cuts off Arlo’s long hair in spite out of fear of him being trans and being hated by God. To this abuse, Arlo runs away and as he escapes Mona, is then hit by a car and killed. Lola is devastated and Mona blames Lola for his death. Another tragedy then happens as Lola dives deeper into her addiction, she is sexually assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend, Trick. After the assault, Lola falls ill and realizes she is now pregnant by Trick. Deciding to keep the baby, she then decides after being begged by Babina to stay clean. She finally manages to run into her mother at the end and relays to her who her child’s father is to her mother’s dismay. Visibly pregnant now, Babina drives Lola to the bus station to start her new life with her baby.
