Subash Menon

Subash Menon[1] (born 28th May 1965) is an Indian business executive and entrepreneur in the software space. He is the Chairman, Managing Director, CEO and CO-Founder of Pelatro Limited since 2013[2]. Prior to Pelatro, he founded Subex[3], a leading solution provider to the telecommunication industry for fraud management and revenue assurance and was the Founder Chairman, Managing Director & CEO of Subex from April 1989 to September 2012. He has over 35 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology sectors, with a track record of leading successful companies and driving innovation in customer engagement strategies.

Early Life and Education

Subash has two brothers and grew up in Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala. His father is P Jayapala Menon, a lawyer and his mother is Y Lalitha. He did his schooling from Vijayamatha Convent, Chittur and PMGHS, Palakkad.

His keen interest in technology inspired Menon to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from National Institute of Technology Durgapur, West Bengal, India.

Career

After college Subash worked at Controls & Switchgear, Eiko Computers and Eltel Industries for a total of 3 years in rising from Sales Engineer to National Sales Manager. In keeping with his plan while at college, he ventured out on his own and founded Subex in 1989. The company started out as an importer and distributor of various products in laser optics, fibre optics and radio equipment. After a decade, Subex entered telecom software space by launching its own products.

Subash co-founded Pelatro in 2013 and the company provides customer engagement software to marketing departments within telcos and banks. Pelatro has a suite of products that address various aspects of customer engagement like campaign management, loyalty management, lead management etc. The company has scores of customers across more than 40 countries.

Subash founded a SPAC and listed it on the NASDAQ in 2021.[4]

Achievements

  1. Led Subex from a one man operation, started with a capital of Rs. 20,000, to a revenue of over Rs. 500 crores with 300+ telco customers in 80 countries. Along the way, Subash steered the company through several acquisitions and an IPO.[5][6][7]
  2. Was named as one of the Movers and Shakers in the Indian IT industry by Economic Times in 2007.
  3. Under his leadership, Subex was selected as one of 8 the most innovative companies by NASSCOM in 2005.[8]
  4. He was the first Chairman of the NASSCOM Product Council and set up the first NASSCOM Product Conclave in 2007.[9]
  5. He was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by NIT Durgapur in 2022.
