Richard Meyer (born June 22, 1957) is an American teacher, strings editor, and best selling musical composer. Many of his 190 compositions[1] are a part of musical curricula from around the world, which are frequently performed by high school and middle school orchestras.

Education

Richard Meyer was born in Santa Monica, CA[2]. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from California State University, Los Angeles in 1980[2][3]. After that, he went on to teach in the Pasadena Unified School District and remained there for 12 years.

Compositions

Richard Meyer has made many compositions, of which some notable ones are listed below:

  • Dragonhunter
  • Sahara Crossing
  • Night Shift
  • Moonlight Tango

A lot of his works are for string orchestra, at beginner to intermediate level, however he does have some repertoire for wind instruments. This is why his works are so often used in school orchestras. His works usually utilize the notes from a particular scale, making them simple to play, but mature sounding.
