Correct, every place is some kind of municipality. However, there are communities with place names that have not separated from the township that surrounds them. Usually they are defined by a post office zip code or have developed around a train station stop. They may be recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a Census-designated place. That is what this category is for. For example, Somerset, New Jersey is located within Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 05:19, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All unincorporated areas should be included on this page, as every other state uses the County level categorization and State level categorization.

For our viewers, they should be able to navigate the various communities through a county level (e.g. -> Category:Unincorporated commmunities in ___ County, New Jersey…and then have entries in Category:Unincorporated communities in New Jersey), instead of the 3 entries that are just redirects (Anglesea, NJ, Bivalve, NJ, and Shell Pile, NJ). All other states do this, so why should NJ be any different. A blue tag at the top even says ALL unincorporated communities should be included here.
