Superintendents were the elected heads of the Councils of the Provinces of New Zealand, from 1853 to their abolition in 1876. As Superintendents were not members of their Councils, this is not the parent category for Category:Members of New Zealand provincial councils. Therefore, if a Superintendent was at another time one of the elected councillors, they belong into both categories.
