This category is for the former towns, localities or large areas that have been resumed or otherwise closed down. It differs from a ghost town which are generally abandoned voluntarily over time and often contain substantial visible remains. The reasons for the closure includes construction of airports, flooding of valleys by dams, mining, future cities or environmental reasons.
