Early example the original Salis crest : Bellona.

This family derives itself from northern Italy, around Como and Brescia. The name Salis comes from the Latin for willow tree: salix, salicibus, salice. It spread north into Rhaetia, the Rhaetian alps, to Soglio in the Bregalia, in the Grisons Republic (aka The Three Leagues or Graubunden). While remaining in Soglio the family grew further branches based in the Grisons' capital Chur (Coire), in the Valtelline towns of Chiavenna, Tirano and Sondrio, and upon the Grisons villages of Samedan (original line is extinct), Zizers, Seewis, Malans, Maienfeld, Marschlins, GrĂ¼sch, Haldenstein, etc.
