This category contains sub-categories for each US state for rock groups hailing from those states. All entries should fall within one of the sub-categories and no articles should directly appear here.

Please note that, by definition, individuals are not a musical group, which requires two or more members. Their articles should not appear in these sub-categories. Musicians may be placed in the appropriate state in Category:American musicians by state but, at present, there is not a US state system for heavy metal musicians, only Category:American rock musicians.
