İstanbul after 1453

There had been at least three reverts in this article between İstanbul and Constantinople, I am sure, in good faith. I appreciate the efforts. But I see that a note about 1930 had been misunderstood. Let me explain. After 1453, several names for the city were used; İstanbul , İslambol (a corrupt form of İstanbul), Dersaaded, Asitane and Kostantiniyyeh ( corrupt form of Constantinople) . Eventually İstanbul superceded all the rest. But the foreign embassies and the levantines continued to use Constantinople. Since written documents in Turkish used Arabic alphabet and the embassies used Latin alphabet this double naming caused no big problem. But in 1930s, Turkey adopted Latin alphabet (Nov.1 1928 to be exact) and Turkish PTT issued a circular to standardize the city namings on letter envelopes. So 1930 has nothing to do with changing the name. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:12, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
