Plinio el Viejo. Esta obra sigue cierto tipo de formato enciclopédico, el que no es similar al formato moderno de
enciclopedia. Allí se recopilan artículos dedicados a diversas temáticas, aunque para ordenar los mismos, Plinio usa la clasificación de la naturaleza de
Aristóteles (animal, vegetal, mineral), para así recrear una visión del mundo natural en forma más literaria y comprensiva (en vez de presentar de forma separada los temas ordenando alfabéticamente los títulos de los artículos, Plinio presenta esos artículos como un grupo coherente, en forma de guía).
