DescriptionMonolito Moore (Front).jpg |
English: Monolith in honour to Moore in the old battlefield
Monolith in commemoration the Battle of Corunna. It is situated in the old battlefield, now converted in the Campus of the University of Corunna. In the stone are written the words that Soult ordered to write in Moore's tomb: "Hic cecidit Johannes Moore, dux exercitus anglicae in pugna januari XVI 1809 contra gallos a duce dalmatiae ductos". Tranlated into English it says : "Here lies John Moore, commander in chief of the English army, in the battle of January, 16th 1809 against the French commanded by the Dalmatian Duke". |
