NORFOLK (June 11, 2012) Brazilian Naval Attache Rear Adm. Celso Luiz Nazareth, left, presents Vice Adm. John M. Richardson, Commander, Submarine Forces, the Brazilian Order of Naval Merit medal aboard the Brazilian navy frigate BNS Independencia (F44). Richardson accepted the award on behalf of the U.S. Submarine Force, signifying the continued partnership between the Brazilian and U.S. Naval Submarine Forces. The Order of Naval Merit was established by the Navy of the Republic of Brazil on July 11, 1934 to honor distinguished civil, national, and foreign naval service to Brazil.
