DescriptionCastle Lake (24889035896).jpg
When weather permits, crews visit stations on Mount St. Helens to repair, refurbish and replace equipment necessary to keep monitoring data transmitting 24/7.
Here is an aerial view of Castle Lake taken on January 8, 2016 by USGS scientist Tami Christianson. Castle Lake was created after the debris avalanche that swept down the Toutle River during the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens blocked South Fork Castle Creek. Mount St. Helens is in the upper left of the image.
