Summary

Description
English: The eastern part of the Duchy of Holstein showing the shredded and scattered territories of the Prince-Bishopric of Lübeck (in yellow).

The Prince-Bishopric of Eutin (in green) was a partition of Lübeck which had resulted from a succession dispute between the ruling houses of Holstein-Gottorp and Denmark early in the 18th century. The bishopric had been secularized during the Reformation and was ruled since then by members of the Protestant Holstein-Gottorp dynasty. The city of Lübeck proper was a free imperial city.

Cropped from a map of the Duchy of Holstein by British cartographer William Faden published in London in 1804. Faden was renowned for his attention to detail.
